Volleyball & Cricket
AMVT & NMCT 2026
The CSIR Sports Promotion Board (SPB) organizes the Atma Ram Memorial Volleyball Tournament (AMVT) and the Nayudamma Memorial Cricket Tournament (NMCT). These tournaments are held bi-annually on a rotational basis at various CSIR laboratories. During these events, CSIR fields its all-India level teams and invites participation from teams representing other S&T ministries, Defence ministries and departments. Additionally, the host laboratory has the opportunity to field its own team and include other local teams.
Dr. Atma Ram (12 October 1908 โ 6 February 1983) was an eminent Indian scientist who served as Director of the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute and became Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1966. He was also Principal Advisor to the Prime Minister on Science & Technology (1977โ1983). He was honored with the Padma Shri award in 1959. The Atmaram Award is given in his memory by the Central Institute of Hindi.
Dr. Yelavarthy Nayudamma (1922โ1985) was a renowned scientist who completed his Ph.D. in Leather Technology from Lehigh University, USA. He served as Director of CLRI (1958), Director General of CSIR (1971), and Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. He received several national and international honors including the Padma Shri. The Nayudamma Memorial Award is presented annually by the Nayudamma Memorial Trust
